Bra cup sizes in order

In US sizing, cups run AA, A, B, C, D, DD, DDD, G, H, I, J. In UK sizing they run AA, A, B, C, D, DD, E, F, FF, G, GG, H. Each step is about one inch more difference between bust and band.

A cup letter is not a fixed size

This is the most common misunderstanding about bra sizes. A letter tells you the difference between bust and band, not how much the cup holds. That same difference wraps around a bigger frame on a larger band, so the cup holds more.

You can see it in sizes that hold the same volume but have different letters:

30D

32C

34B

36A

All four share a cup volume. These are called sister sizes, and the sister size calculator finds them for any size.

Why countries use different letters

Up to D, almost everyone agrees. After that, each system took its own route:

  • United States: doubles and triples first, as DD and DDD, then carries on from G. Some US brands label the same cups E and F, so a US DDD and a US F are usually the same.
  • United Kingdom: adds double letters along the way, as DD, FF, GG and HH, and skips I.
  • Europe and France: run straight through the alphabet with no doubles.
  • Australia and New Zealand: use DD, then run straight through from E.

The European standard, EN 13402, also defines each cup in 2 cm steps rather than 1 inch steps, so the gap between systems can grow at larger sizes. For the full picture, see how the calculator works.

Cup size questions

What comes after a D cup?

In the US and the UK, DD comes next. After that the US goes to DDD and then G, while the UK goes to E, F and FF. In Europe there are no double letters, so D is followed by E, F and G.

Is DD bigger than D?

Yes, by one cup. DD means the bust is about 5 inches larger than the band, where D is about 4 inches. The double letter does not mean double the size.

Is an E cup bigger than a DD?

In the UK, yes: E is the next cup up from DD. In Europe, an E is the same as a UK or US DD. Labels vary by country, so check where a bra was sized before comparing.

Is a D cup big?

Not necessarily. A D cup only means your bust is about 4 inches larger than your band. On a 30 band that is a modest volume, and on a 42 band it is a large one.

Why are there no I cups in UK sizes?

UK sizing skips the letter I, going from HH to J, and typically doubles letters along the way. US and European sizing do use I. That makes it easy to misread a label when you are buying across countries.

Are all C cups the same size?

No. Cup letters are relative to the band, so a 38C holds more than a 32C. A 32C is closer in volume to a 34B or a 30D, which are its sister sizes.
